The SoundCloud follow button lets you grow your SoundCloud following by allowing your website visitors to follow you with a single click. Just like a Facebook or Twitter follow button, it means that anyone with a SoundCloud account can quickly add you to the list of people they follow on the service.
SoundCloud, if you’ve not come across it before, is a music streaming platform. It’s free to use, though there’s an ad-free premium version that allows offline listening. While it’s not as popular as competitor Spotify, it has a huge number of independent and underground musicians and bands creating and uploading music (particularly hip hop and electronic music).
To follow someone on SoundCloud, you need to click the orange “Follow” button under their header in their user profile. This obviously means you need to find them on SoundCloud first!
It’s much simpler if there’s a “Follow” button on the person’s website – if the person you want to follow uses the SoundCloud follow button, or a similar button, you can simply click it to follow them.
Like Spotify, SoundCloud allows users to curate music by creating playlists. If you’re not a musician yourself, but want to promote up and coming music, then this is a great way to showcase the best of what you’ve found.
On SoundCloud, you can “like” a playlist by clicking on its “Like” button (which will turn from black to orange, and read “Liked” – you can click it again if you don’t want to “like” the playlist any more). This playlist will now be listed in your Likes and on your Library page, so you can easily find it and listen to it again.
If you’re a musician or in a band, you may well be focused on growing a following on SoundCloud – and there are plenty of artists that got their start on SoundCloud. But you might be wondering how to grow a following.
Some good ways to get started are to:
- Find bloggers, online DJs, or playlist curators who like your type of music.
- Dig into your listener data on SoundCloud (if you have a premium plan), or through your YouTube data.
- Share music from other artists who you enjoy – this can help you build a community around your SoundCloud account (and it’ll encourage other artists to share your work).
- Get your album art right: if it’s boring, badly resized, or doesn’t reflect your genre and style, then it will be working against you.
- Use social networks like Twitter and Facebook to share the new music that you post on SoundCloud.
If you’re not a musician, you might still want to build a following on SoundCloud: perhaps your business targets bands or music-lovers, for instance. In that case, you’ll want to make sure your website does a great job of communicating what you do – and you’ll want to have a SoundCloud follow button so that interested visitors can connect with you there and follow your playlists.
