If you use ShareThis tools to enable sharing features and collect data analytics on your website, below are the details of the privacy aspects.

Pseudonymised Personal Data from Your Visitors

The data our tools collect on your website is pseudonymised personal data.  We know how a particular browser or device interacts with your website; we do not know the person behind the browser or device.  We know what you know about your visitors: where they came from (referring domain), the type of browser they are using, their IP address, a certain portion of items they’ve browsed online.

Data Analytics

We may offer tools that provide analytics for your website, letting you better understand the visitors’ use and interactions.  This information tells you how many people are sharing content from your website.  We may also offer aggregate browsing data so you may infer the people most likely to share your content with their friends are, for example, soccer fans.

Personally Identifiable Information from Your Visitors

Your visitors can voluntarily register a social sharing account with ShareThis.  They can email ShareThis with questions.  In those instances, we use the personally identifiable information only to process the request.  The analytics data or usage data is not tied to their personally identifiable information (PII).

To protect your visitors, we ask that you not pass any data that could be used or recognized as PII. We promote Google’s best practices to avoid sending PII found at this link. These recommendations include form implementation (use POST rather than GET), URL schemes, links in emails, and keywords for targeting purposes. Please review these and put into practice on your site.

No Children under 16

Per our Publisher Terms of Use, our tools cannot be used on websites directed towards children under the age of 16.  Our tools also cannot be used on general websites that have actual knowledge of use by children under the age of 16.

Data Also Used for Advertising

We help advertisers find consumers who are likely to be interested in their products or services based on what their browsers or devices share online.  This is how we support our business with a service that is free to you and consumers. This means we use pixels to place a cookie on your visitors’ browsers.  In some cases, this may involve your visitors receiving a cookie from an advertising partner. They can manage their preferences for interest-based advertising at or .

We also use statistical IDs for analytics.  The statistical IDs are not currently used for interest-based advertising.   If we start using non-cookie technologies for interest-based advertising, we will update this page and our privacy notice, along with providing an opt-out through the NAI opt out platform.

Your Visitors Can Opt Out of Interest-Based Advertising

Visitors can easily choose to opt out of ShareThis data collection for interest-based advertising at any time by going here.  This prevents them seeing ads based on data collected by ShareThis.  It will not prevent them from seeing ads as they browse online; it only prevents ads based on data collected by ShareThis.

Privacy Notice You Need to Give to Your Visitors

We believe in being transparent with consumers.  Our Publisher Terms of Use require you to give notice of our interest-based advertising cookie along with providing the consumers with a choice to opt out.  Please provide a notice substantially similar to the language below in your privacy policy:

Some third-party companies may also use non-cookie technologies, such as statistical IDs.
