If you’ve ever had the pleasant experience of walking along the Santa Monica promenade on a Saturday afternoon, you may have heard what sounds like a record of the hit song “Stand By Me” or Louis Armstrong’s “Wonderful World.” Actually, that sound is Roger Ridley, a singer from Las Vegas, who is often called “the voice of God” by other street singers and lucky listeners. He travels from Las Vegas every week to sing at the Santa Monica promenade before driving back home that evening.

Ridley’s “Stand By Me” became the inspiration for Playing for Change, a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The feeling that no matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite the human race.

The belief in connecting people through sharing music resonates well with the ShareThis team, as we are all dedicated to connecting people and passing along things we like and think others will enjoy as well. We’re excited that the Playing for Change site has decided to implement ShareThis and we hope you’ll share the great work that this group is accomplishing.
